Computer Woes

marxdarx is a 3d animation and graphics student, and thus has a computer of his own.

The Tale of the Computer is a nasty one, fraught with things like The Hair Debacle, piracy (not his), and a cameo appearance of the FBI's Computer Crimes Division. We finally have a version of XP on it that won't send him to Hell, but sadly, his CD burner stopped working.

I finally dug up the external USB burner I got back in 2001 or so, and he's trying to install that now. The USB ports on the side of the box are, surprise surprise, not entirely functional.

We'll see what happens. I don't know XP as well as I should, simply because I haven't worked with it enough. Joy to the fucking world, and pass me some mighty fine wine, because I may really need it.

Happily, after some driver-hunting and program-tweaking, the burner works. Now, marxdarx can take his 3D stuff to and from school in peace! Yay for technology!

Romance, the moments of sheer "Huh?"

One of votania's co-workers or former co-workers came over for dinner some weeks ago.

Evidently, he thinks I am "a very beautiful woman" and wants to know if he has a chance with me.

votania is convinced that I have this magnetic attraction for men, and that they are flocking around me. While I tend to attract the attention of at least one new suitor every year or so, my standards of "flocking" are much higher. When swallowtayle was in third grade or so, one of her friends was the class beauty, a very lively and pretty redheaded girl. All the boys flirted with her, and some of them tried to give her candy/jewelry/etc. She was practically beating them away from her with a stick. FatherSir predicted that there would be difficulties when she was a teenager. That is "flocking". digitalambience in 2002 and yaksha42 in 2003, (and a certain girlfriend in 2004) is hardly "flocking".

But. Um. Interesting. Wow. Uncanny.

I didn't think that I'd actually made much of an impression on him, being as it was that I mostly was hidden in my room, and was thereafter very, very quiet.

As far as his chances go, I'm perfectly happy to get to know him a little better, but my initial impression of him was, while uneventful, also uneventful (I don't even have a mental image of him; my mind's substituting a different 30-ish short plump True Neutral geek-type), and my dance card is, if not full, at least well-occupied.

votania had to go pick out some clothes-type-things. I came with her.

I now have SHORTS! Yay, shorts. I'd debated getting some last time I was shopping, but decided against it. That had been the correct decision, because this time they were a good 60-something percent off, marked down to $2 a pair.

So, I now have enough pocketless navy blue shorts to last a year or two, or at least until the end of the next major screaming heat wave of the sort that leaves mere mortals screaming for mercy and throwing themselves in the nearest bonfire just because it looks like it might be cooler than the weather outside.
