I suppose I ought to mention what my plans for the day are. I'm fairly sure that it was last year that I wound up sharing a table with Darkside and family, and I was properly thankful (and overjoyed)!

This year, I haven't heard one word or another from Darkside (or his mom, and Darkside's Mom is the one who says what goes) about the holiday. Since I'm not about to presume a standing invitation (though I'm fairly sure I would have one), and most specifically to the point, they do spend some random holidays out of town with assorted relatives, unless Darkside's mom gets back to me with something that fits my schedule (at this late date) I am most likely not going over there.

jai_dit is in town for the holiday, and ailetoile does a Holiday for Lostlings event. JD put the two together (jai_dit JD, not jdllama JD) and came up with the astonishing notion that I should attend this! And so it was decreed! I shall be showing up before the dinner proper starts, hanging out and helping with the cookery, having fun. At some point we shall decamp and descend upon the decreed location at ASU with a fully-fledged (roasted!) dinner. Then, when my roommate buzzes my leash, I shall retrieve her. At a Reasonable Hour, the roommate shall be put to bed, and depending on energy/happenings, I may return to the festivities.

Because I am a sensible Lunatic on the matter of Darkside and his mother, I did make a social poke to check in on the proceedings, in the form of an e-mail sent to the Darkside, declaring myself up for some Death Note on the upcoming holiday weekend. Figuring out the right phrasing for "I'd love to come over, holiday-wise, if you guys want me there, but I don't want to presume, and I do want it to be your idea, not mine, if you do want me" was a tricky one. I eventually settled for the simple and truthful, as well as (amazingly) tactful: "I don't know if your mom will want to claim me for Thanksgiving this year or not; that's up to her. My schedule's pretty open, although there may be some insane writing buddy plans."

I'd expect that if anything majorly involving me were to be happening, that I'd have heard back by now. I haven't, so I think it's safe to say that my plans will remain as they are.

For the rest of the weekend, there's a potential whole-day write-in on Friday [and, duh! fitted_sheets is due to be in town then, so we'll probably at least say hi], helping samurai_ko move on Saturday, and more writing on Sunday, though I may elect to take that as a day of frickin' rest already and go completely horizontal and just Not Move.

Wherein I bring my fudge to the party. I claim to have made enough fudge for most of LJ.

There were several random YouTube videos. "Andromeda" is crazy like woah, and looks like bad late 70s sci-fi. There were various turkey shenanigans. I got detailed on camera duty. Spink the cat is so, so cute. There is all sorts of random and hilarity, including the thing with the unwanted hair removal by means of fire. Friends, do not light your hair on fire if you no longer want it. Especially when it is attached to you. Especially if it is not scalp hair.

JD has pictures of the preparations. I wound up in control of the camera starting with the turkey fisting. So much love.

Mama called. Dad is resurrecting a 5.25" floppy drive so he can read data from someone's old disk. There was giggly gossip. Mama wanted to know who I was doing Thanksgiving with, so I told her. It is amusing to merrily tell Mama "Oh, I've never met them before," because it does confuse her.

There was setting up of the fish tank, and Spink was in the middle of investigating. There was hilarity as three bloggers converged with various implements of documentation, waiting for her to fall in. (She didn't.) There will be photos from my camera whenever.

I'm going to call Darkside a bit later on, though maybe that will wind up being now.

Dinner; dessert; insanity.

There are going to be crazy desserts. Crazy, crazy desserts. JD has been faithfully blogging this all. It is excellent. I am tapping away at parts of my word count. I am so close to going "screw the plot; shove them in a room and have them get it on". But I do want an actual first draft, not a ... cracktastic crackfest. Though it is a crackfic anyway.

...*do* cracktastic outtakes count as part of the word count?
