A Partial Reconstruction of my thoughts at work on Thursday

10:18 AM 5/31/2007
[I had much angst, because I am bad at doing the social thing, and deep down, I know it. I get certain comfort levels with it when I have been around any given group for a while, but at heart I'm still very unsure of the social rules. I've had to learn some of them by rote, and those are the ones that I'm never sure if I'm following properly. ]

Something more tragic and less personal --

In a refreshing dose of normality, Lobot and the Web Geek and some unknown woman are in the training rooms tearing everything apart. Someone's coming in from London on Monday, and the training rooms are the best place to hold whatever event it is going on. There is mass chaos and confusion. Snarky Lady is going to be pissed. Management canceled the regular meeting on the grounds that someone moved a meeting on her.

Looks like LJ is down. Whee for offline clients like notepad and post-by-e-mail once it comes back up again.

Writers group was excellent last night. Our new person stayed; we got in a random new person who I think previously might have been intimidated by the group, but I read over the drafted manifesto and she stayed and blended very well indeed. "What's wrong with porn?" she said, when hcolleen was talking about the character development of her characters and without the character development erotica is just porn. *snerk* Yeah, we have a live one.

I had to erase my stick-figure illustration of the love scene in hcolleen's "Icarus". Even after I put the censor-bar over the groinal area. (I illustrate some things in our meetings. It can get ... insane.) myrrhianna insisted. I see her point, but still. :(

There's a rumor going around that my last day here is Friday. Ha, no. I'm going part-part time whenever I get a better job, see.

http://ataniell93.livejournal.com/820303.html -- some sanity for fandom. (Strikethrough-related.)

The last time I hit my friends page was Tuesday night. I don't read logged-in at work.

There's news -- http://news.livejournal.com/99159.html
I picked a great time to be away from my friends page for more than 24 hours. Not going to do a summary. It's too open a sore spot for me. The news-post makes me feel all kinds of better, but ... pain?

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/05/31/spam_king_arrested/ -- yay, but this guy should also have a punishment fitting the crime.

I was going to say that my elder clone was planning to start a rumor, but the actual situation is that Snarky Lady has started a rumor -- that I'm pregnant. I was giggling about the concept last night (I haven't been around any unchaperoned sperm since 2003, folks), and then I realized who they'd be blaming for this. jai_dit showed up in March for Spring Break, and then he showed up for the summer, and it's well-known that I brought him in, and that he continues to hang out with me.

Snarky Lady has started grumbling loudly and in public about me and morning sickness. (I've looked very ill for the past few days, which is in fact due to far too much drama rather than an unexpected inhabitant of my uterus.)

And then directly after I sent the original form of this off via e-mail, I went off to grab some tea. I came back to find that the education coordinator of the women's center had called. Evidently I'd been supposed to meet with her Wednesday to talk about whether the writers had decided to cave about the porn or not. I was in the middle of agreeing to meet with her next week and trying to articulate that we as writers were going to put our best effort forward into treating the topic of erotica with the sensitivity it deserved when she brought up another issue.

The center puts paper signs by the doors to their meeting space rooms, indicating what group is meeting there. During the time after smmc was out on the cellphone and the end of group, someone had struck out the "writers group" and wrote in "The Witches Coven". I asked if anyone had done this, and no one in the group had; it was azwriter's considered opinion as a Christian member of the group that if someone had been trying to hurt us by doing this, then they had really failed, as the incident really amused the whole group.

The education coordinator asked if any member of the group had done this, saying how it was unprofessional and disturbing. I said that we had noticed this, and I had asked around the group, and none of us had done this. She told me that she could not imagine that any outsider to our writers group had done this.

The conversation was pretty much over at that point. There are certain points when I turn off my listening skills, and that was one of them. I managed to get off the phone without either saying anything angry or just slamming the phone down and then cursing. I am through coordinating this group with the center. I will be happy to coordinate or co-coordinate it elsewhere.

I went home and started catching up on ?skip=750. JD called; I extracted him from work and took him home-to-Myrrh's. Discussion and dinner followed, with innuendo and discussion at Denny's involving all sorts of random things, from squishing-your-head to condoms to SAUSAGE and omg think of the childrens and much, much discussion of KoL. Also some other stuff.

After I finally got home, I finished catching up on the friends page. The public stuff, that I can read at work. The locked stuff, not so much, because I don't log in from there. I now have some fanfic trying to break out of my head. Who knew that Captain Barbosa would take on such a shiny quality as a muse? I have got to stop trying to write fanfic and finish polishing up the CV, because I do have to apply for that job.

Hello, Friday. Nice to meet you too.

I think I'm back down to a human level of comments and such in my in-box. Everything either requires some degree of deep thought, is on something locked, or otherwise requires me to be logged in or not at work.

Sometimes everything just clicks together and you think, "Why did I not see that?"
Sometimes everything just clicks together and you think, "Wait, everyone else didn't see that?"

Got my primary paperwork for the day out of the way. My backup was doing stuff in her real department, so I got to do my own paperwork.

That 'Interests I Don't Like' meme:
depression: I would venture to say I probably have it, though I've never been diagnosed. I don't like it. This is why I'm on St. John's Wort.

dissociative identity disorder, mpd: This was a large part of my existence from age 14 to rather recently. It worked for me. I'm not sure if I liked it or not. It kept me sane, at least, even while it was inconvenient. Most recently it's been a dissociation without so much disorder, and then not so much dissociation, as the varied parts of my lives came together in a coherent fashion that supported a united identity.

ectogenesis: I'm not sure what I think of the concept as a thing, but it's the title of one of my novels-in-progress; almost all references I make to that word are going to mean my abandoned novel, rather than the actual idea of birth outside of the mother.

html: I'm not sure if I like html or not. I have to use it, though, so I sort of have to take an interest in it. Contrast c++, which I did really like when I was playing with it.

nevermore: I am one, whether or not I like that. This is the state of being an alumnus of the Center for Talented Youth programs, one who has aged out of the program. No matter how much I wanted to, I will never be a CTY student again.

robert jordan: Actually, I might want to take this one off my interests list, because while his books interested me when I was 21, they've dragged on too long for me to really take an interest in following until the series has been completed.

rpgs: This is misleading in this meme. I like 'em just fine. I just don't play them. I'm not a gamer. I hang out with gamers.

trenchcoat mafia: This is an old protest interest, sort of. We were just the weird kids who wore trenchcoats. We weren't terrorists or hooligans, except those of us who happened to be. We weren't organized crime. We were the weird outsiders, and if we hadn't banded together, we all would have been the school's victims-of-choice.

Hi! Yes, the site is slow.

Yay paperwork. Got some of Traveling Manager's paperwork mailed off. Going through my inbox to get things entered and stuff. Yay. Yesterday I taught Traveling Manager about 'open in new window'. I have this thing about teaching her cool tech tricks and trying to explain things rather than teaching her by rote, because I know she's bright enough to pick up on it if it's taught right. She doesn't have the mental blocks that 100% preclude her learning these things. So I teach her. She's got this delighted, childlike attitude when she gets it, and that learning experience of hers is so very rewarding.

I created a poll for the group, so we can vote on what we all think. The poll closes on Tuesday.

Whee documentation and poking at stupid spreadsheets. Annnd we have a JD that is done with the shift, so I can say that I am done with trying to get ahead for next week, and go!
