running, bomb tech

I'm planning to go to the East Valley NaNo kickoff on the 26th.

I unfortunately will have to bow out of emptybackpack's planned shindig as it is in Tucson on a work night. Boo. :(

I've made a sort-of commitment to a story this time:

The more I think about it, the more likely it is that I'm going to wind up in dark/urban fantasy again this year.

In 2006, I wrote what turns out to have been Book 1 in what the characters are now telling me is a trilogy. It was supernatural romance, working title Circle of Fire (will probably change as that doesn't at all describe the actual events or theme, which wound up featuring an evil software company). Around the same general time, I also got smacked with what I thought was a short story about a schoolteacher who teams up with a demon to save the world. Short story. Ha. The actual story hasn't gotten off the ground, mostly due to a computer crash and lack of work and starting out in the wrong place, so it's time for me to ditch the previously written stuff as notes (if any of it's good I can work it in after NaNo's over) and hit the ground running on the 1st.

Premise: 2nd grade teacher Mary has been suffering waking nightmares about the end of the world. She is abducted by a demon who realizes that she is somehow tuning in to Hell's actual plan for same. They form an unlikely team to foil the plan. Hijinks ensue. The battle is eventually won, but the war is not over. Working title: Demon Mirror

(Book 3: the crews from Circle of Fire and Demon Mirror team up. Circle of Fire's protagonists have a lot of sex.)

Working title is "Demon Mirror". An elementary school teacher has visions of the end of the world. She spills a little too much while drunk in a bar, and is picked up by a demon who realizes that she is somehow tuning in to actual plans that Hell is laying to end the world. They form an unlikely team to foil these plans.

The idea was originally going to be a short story. My computer crash and Nick and Mary had other ideas. Well, Mike told me that there were other ideas, when I quizzed him on exactly when he and Connie had actually got around to having all that sex they were talking about. "In Book 3, of course," he said. "Wait, book *3*?!" I asked. "I didn't know there was a book 2!" So he informed me that in fact this was book 2 (its previous working title was Hell's Angel, but Demon Mirror seems to have stuck for the moment) and urged me to get it done so he could get some more alone-time with Connie.
